The documents required to apply for a foreign domestic helper are as follows:
- A copy of the employer’s ID card and family member information (including full name in English, date of birth, relationship with the employer and ID number, passport number or birth certificate number).
- Employer’s address proof (original), such as: rates bill/water bill/electric bill/gas bill/home telephone bill or cable TV bill, etc. (Provide one of them, if you use your spouse’s name, you need to provide a marriage certificate or child birth certificate)
- A copy of the employer’s income certificate, such as tax slips (annual salary must exceed HK$180,000), time slips (a deposit of HK$360,000 or above), pay slips or monthly statements (HK$15,000 or above).
- Employer’s occupation, contact number, living area, number of rooms, room area of the helper’s house or sharing a room with a child/same-sex elder.
- If the employer changes the helper, it is necessary to provide the name, ID number, and contract termination date of the current helper.
- If you live in public housing, you need to provide a copy of the tenancy agreement. After the consulate approves the contract, the employer must also apply for a temporary residence permit for the helper.
Employer’s responsibilities:
- Employers need to purchase labor insurance for foreign domestic helpers, and our company welcomes them.
- The employment contract lasts for two years, calculated from the date of arrival of the foreign domestic helper, and there is no probation period. The monthly salary of foreign domestic helpers is HK$4,630, with unparalleled salary and bonuses at the end of the year.
- Foreign domestic helpers have one day off each week. They are entitled to statutory holidays (labor leave) after working for 3 months and 7 days of paid annual leave after working for one year.
Applicants must prepare the following supporting documents:
- A copy of the employer’s Hong Kong identity card. If the employer is not a permanent resident of Hong Kong, please provide a copy of the employer’s travel document (including personal data and the number of pages with the latest Hong Kong visa and other information).
- Employer’s tax bills for the most recent three months, or proof of automatic transfer of salary accounts for the most recent three months, or the most recent three months’ payroll. The employer must have an annual salary of more than HK$180,000 or a monthly salary of HK$15,000 and above.
- If the employer does not have a regular job, he can present a bank fixed deposit of more than HK$350,000 in the last 6 months as a supporting document.
- Copy of marriage certificate or copy of birth certificate (if income certificate or address certificate is different from applicant).
- Water / Gas / Rates / Residential Telephone Bills / Electricity Bills registered in the name of the applicant in the last three months / Original and copy of receipts such as cable TV (mobile phone bills are not acceptable). The original documents will be returned to the applicant.
- If the applicant has ever hired a foreign domestic helper, he must also provide the current or past maid’s name, a copy of the travel document’s Hong Kong identity card number and the valid date of the work permit.

Notice to employers:
- The helper and the employer must sign a specified standard employment contract (ID 407).
- The helper can only perform the housework listed in the standard employment contract for the employer.
- Helpers are not allowed to work for others during their stay in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
- The employer must promise to pay the helper’s salary not less than the minimum wage announced by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government.
